The Tampa Bay Rays and the New York Yankees begin a weekday series at Yankee Stadium on Monday.
The Tampa Bay Rays are playing their best baseball of the young season with five consecutive victories following a 5-1 win against visiting Toronto on Sunday. Both the bats and arms have been contributing and that trend continued Sunday behind a dominant performance on the mound from Chris Archer who tossed a two hit shutout with seven strikeouts over seven frames to up his record to 3-2. The Rays pounded Toronto pitching for 13 hits and three walks with Brandon Guyer going 2-4 with a homer and four RBI’s while Tim Beckham went 2-3 with two runs. Nathan Karns gets the call to the mound to face the Yankees for the second time in 2015. Karns did not get a decision in an 8-5 win versus Boston with five runs plated on seven hits and four BB over six innings.

Like their counterparts the New York Yankees are playing their best baseball of the early going. The Bronx Bombers won the rubber match of the Subway Series with a 6-4 victory over the Mets on Sunday Night Baseball. Solid offense and relief pitching was the story of the game for the Yanks. Starter Nathan Eovaldi allowed all four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts covering 4.1 innings while five relievers kept the Mets off the scoreboard. The Bronx Bombers posted nine hits and walked once with Alex Rodriguez going deep for the 5th time and driving in two while Brett Gardner went 2-4 with a pair of runs. Adam Warren looks to up his game when he faces Tampa Bay for the second time. Warren did not get a decision in that game with four runs scored on six hits and a pair of free passes in four innings of a 5-4 win.
The under is 8-2 in Tampa Bay’s last 10 Monday games and the over is 9-3-1 in their last 13 on grass. The over is 9-1-1 in New York’s last 11 home games and is 7-1-1 in their last 9 games as a favorite while going 12-4-1 in NYY last 17 overall. Tampa Bay is 12-4 in the last 16 meetings in New York. I don’t think we can figure out which hurler has the edge but runs have been scored when these guys take the mound and hopefully that continues…
