The San Diego Padres and the Houston Astros face off on Tuesday at PETCO Park for game two of their interleague series.
The San Diego Padres came back to tie Monday’s game but that was as close as they got to winning as they lost to the Astros. Yangervis Solarte had three hits, Wil Myers had two hits, and Matt Kemp had a hit as the Padres scored four runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher James Shields allowed six hits and three runs while striking out 12 over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Joaquin Benoit took the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Padres start Tyson Ross who has allowed 22 hits and 10 earned runs while striking out 28 over 22.2 innings for a 1-1 record and a 3.97 ERA.

The Houston Astros continued their hot play by beating the Padres on Monday. Jed Lowrie, Colby Rasmus, and Jason Castro all hit home runs as the Astros scored nine runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Collin McHugh allowed seven hits and three runs while striking out five over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Pat Neshek got the win. For Tuesday’s game the Astros start Roberto Hernandez who has allowed 14 hits and seven earned runs while striking out 10 over 17.2 innings for a 0-2 record and a 3.57 ERA.
San Diego is 22-7 as a home favorite, 20-8 in game two of a series, and 7-2 in Ross’ last nine starts as a favorite. Houston is 5-0 in their last five games, 22-44 against the AL West, and 3-8 in their last 11 interleague road games. Houston is 4-9 in their last 13 games in San Diego.
I liked Houston a lot on Monday but in this one I am changing course as I am on Ross and the Padres.
