The Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers face off on Tuesday at Target Field for game two of their MLB series of AL Central teams.
The Minnesota Twins battled back on Monday but they came up short taking a loss in game one against the Tigers. Jordan Schafer had three hits, Danny Santana had two hits, and Joe Mauer had a hit as the Twins scored four runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Tommy Milone allowed eight hits and five runs while striking out two over 4.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-1 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Twins start Mike Pelfrey who has allowed 15 hits and five runs while striking out eight over 17 innings for a 1-0 record and a 2.65 ERA.

The Detroit Tigers got out to an early lead on Monday in Minnesota and they made it hold up as they beat the Twins in game one. Jose Iglesias and Yoenis Cespedes each hit home runs and J.D. Martinez had two hits as the Tigers scored five runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher David Price allowed six hits and three runs while striking out seven over 6.1 innings to get the win and go to 2-1 and Joakim Soria earned his eighth save. For Tuesday’s game the Tigers start Anibal Sanchez who has allowed 21 hits and 15 earned runs while striking out 25 over 22.2 innings for a 1-2 record and a 5.96 ERA.
Minnesota is 4-1 as a home underdog, 4-9 at home against a right-handed starter, and 8-18 in Pelfrey’s last 26 starts as an underdog. Detroit is 6-1 in their last seven road games, 23-9 against the AL Central, and 4-1 in Sanchez’s last five road starts. Detroit is 5-0 in their last five games against the Twins.
The Twins had all of the momentum as the game closed out on Monday and I am also not a big Sanchez fan as I see him as susceptible to allowing big innings and I will take the Twins to get it done here at the big price.
