The Philadelphia Phillies hope to leave Busch Stadium with a win against the St Louis Cardinals.
The Philadelphia Phillies main goal is to build a solid foundation for the future but unfortunately that future isn’t going to be 2015. The Phillies fell in to the basement of the National League East following a 5-2 defeat at Busch Stadium Wednesday. Aaron Harang has been the Phils best hurler but even he met his match with all five runs plated on nine hits and a base on balls over six innings pitched. There was baserunners on eight hits and a pair of walks but key hits weren’t on the menu. Ryan Howard slugged his 4th homer and Odubel Herrera singled in Aaron Harang but that was all she wrote in the scoring department. Philadelphia hands the ball to David Buchanan who faces the St Louis Cardinals for the first time in 2015. Buchanan has dropped all four of his outings but threw the ball well in a 5-2 loss at Atlanta where gave up three runs in 6.2 innings.

The St Louis Cardinals are the early front runner in the National League Central and continued to add to the win column with Wednesday’s victory against visiting Philadelphia. Both the pitching and hitting contributed to the success. Starter Carlos Martinez picked up the win with both runs plated on six hits and a trio of bases on balls through six frames. The Redbirds totaled nine hits a walked twice with five players scoring and five driving in runs with four recording two hits apiece. Left hander Tim Cooney makes his major league debut when he takes the mound against Philadelphia Thursday. Including three starts in 2015 Cooney is 29-23 in 68 outings with a 3.50 ERA.
Philadelphia are 2-8 in their last 10 road games and the over is 18-6-2 in their last 26 Thursday games and 5-2-1 in their last 8 road games. The under is 7-1 in the Cardinals last 8 Thursday games while St Louis are 7-2 in their last 9 Thursday games and 10-3 in their last 13 overall. The Phillies are 3-7 in their last 10 meetings in St Louis. The dilemma here is the far better team with the rookie pitcher is at high juice against a struggling team. I honestly have no answers…
