The Cincinnati Reds continue their series at Turner Field against the Atlanta Braves on Friday.
The Cincinnati Reds don’t want to fall too far behind the St Louis Cardinals in the National League Central and that means getting both their arms and bats on the same page more often then not and they did that Thursday. The Reds downed Atlanta 5-1 on the road behind Mike Leake who tossed a two hit shutout over eight frames to get the win. The bats totaled nine hits and walked four times with Todd Frazier, Billy Hamilton, Tucker Barnhart and Mike Leake smacking solo homers.Cincinnati gives Friday’s start versus Atlanta to Anthony DeSclafani who is looking for his third win. DeSclafani lost his first game to the Cubs last time out 5-2 with all five runs allowed over five frames but only one was earned.

The Atlanta Braves are a surprising second in the National League Central and need to get the best their arms and bats have to be successful. The Braves did get great starting pitching but the pen and bats struggled in Thursday’s defeat to the Reds. Shelby Miller allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits including two homers and nine strikeouts through seven frames before Donnie Veal and Ian Thomas surrendering solo jacks. The offense never got going on four hits and three walks with Freddie Freeman driving in Phillip Gosselin who doubled. Trevor Cahill goes in search of his first win of the season when he gets the ball against Cincinnati. Cahill is hoping to bounce back from a 5-4 loss at Philadelphia where he allowed four runs on five hits and three BB in six innings.
Cincinnati are 1-8 in their last 9 Friday games and the under is 9-4-1 in CIN last 14 Fri. games while the Reds are 16-35 in their last 51 road games. The under is 10-1 in Atlanta’s last 11 home games and the Braves are 2-9 in their last 11 games on grass while the over is 8-2 in their last 10 games as an underdog. I’m going with the visitors who I believe have the edge at the plate and on the mound…
