The Colorado Rockies and NL West rival the San Diego Padres take the field at Petco Park in Friday night action.
If you followed the Colorado Rockies in 2014 you know a quick start turned south very quickly and their 3-7 mark over the past ten contests is making the fans uneasy. The pitching has struggled in this stretch and did so once again in Wednesday’s 9-1 defeat at Arizona. Starter Jordan Lyles was charged with seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and five bases on balls over five innings to fall to 2-2. The offense couldn’t keep up on a five hit attack with Nolan Arenado knocking in Troy Tulowitzki with the only run. The Rockies open the series with Eddie Butler on the bump. Butler is looking for his third win after escaping San Francisco in a 6-4 victory where he allowed all four runs on nine hits over six frames.

The San Diego Padres are in the middle of the pack in the National League West even though they are struggling with defeats in seven of eight. Neither the work on the mound or at the plate have been strong and that trend continued in Wednesday Night’s 7-2 loss to Houston. Starter Andrew Cashner was not the problem with three runs plated (two earned ) on six hits while striking out ten through seven innings. Craig Kimbrel allowed three runs in the top of the 9th and Brandon Mauer one to break open a close contest. The Padres managed just three hits with Matt Kemp driving in Wil Myers with both runs. The Padres are hoping Ian Kennedy and his ailing hamstring are 100% when he matches up with Colorado. Kennedy is coming off of an 11-8 loss to the Dodgers where was tagged for eight runs on eight hits including three bombs in 4.1 innings.
Colorado are 13-44 in their last 57 road games and are 7-15 in their last 22 Fri. games. San Diego are 1-7 in their last 8 overall and are 1-7 in their last 8 games on grass while the under is 9-2 in SD last 11 Fri. games. The under is 5-2-1 in the last 8 meetings. Not much to like about this game the way both teams are playing but if Kennedy is really healthy I like his chances but I don’t know if he is which has me sitting this out...
