The Milwaukee Brewers continue their series with the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field Saturday.
The Milwaukee Brewers are off to a very slow start and need to get the ship righted soon to avoid falling too far behind in the National League Central. That didn’t happen Friday in a 1-0 defeat at Wrigley Field. Great pitching from Wily Peralta went by the wayside with a solo homer allowed over six innings which dropped him to 0-4 on the year. The offense never got going on four hits and a base on balls with Jason Rogers and Gerardo Parra both posting two hits. Mike Fiers draws Saturday’s starting assignment at the Chicago Cubs. Fiers has been struggling to go deeper in to games and for the season is 0-3 with a 5.79 ERA and a 1.93 WHIP in 18.2 frames that covers four starts.

The Chicago Cubs probably weren’t given a great deal of attention in the National League Central but they probably are now as they are second in the division behind the Cardinals. Lefty Jon Lester finally broke in to the win column as he allowed three hits and a walk through seven shutout frames with Pedro Strop and Hector Rondon hurling a scoreless inning each with Rondon picking up save number five. The Cubbies totaled nine hits and three free passes with Addison Russell connecting on his 6th homer for the only run Chicago needed. Chicago hands the ball to ace Jake Arrieta who goes for his third win when he faces Milwaukee. Arrieta comes off of a 5-2 decision at Cincinnati where he allowed both runs on four hits and three BB in six innings.
Milwaukee are 5-21 in their last 26 road games and are 14-39 in their last 53 overall while going 14-39 in their last 53 games on grass. The over is 6-2-4 in Chicago’s last 12 overall and is 6-2-4 in their last 12 on grass while the under is 6-2 in Arrietas last 8 home starts. The under is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings in Chicago and 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. I favor the Cubs but for the life of me I have a difficult time betting them…
