The Miami Marlins visit the Nation’s capital to take the field with the Washington Nationals.
The game of baseball is one of those sports where a team can have all the advantages on paper and still lose. That was the case with the Miami Marlins on Sunday in a 6-2 defeat to visiting Philadelphia. Starter Jarred Cosart fell to 1-2 with three runs scored on five hits over five frames with Bryan Morris allowing two runs and Brad Hand, one. The bats managed just six hits and walked twice with Giancarlo Stanton and Jhonatan Solano driving in runs. David Phelps makes his 4th start for Miami and first against Washington on Monday. Phelps picked up a no decision in a 4-3 win versus the Mets with just two runs allowed on seven hits over six innings.

I’m still waiting for the Washington Nationals to catch fire and they might be on the verge of doing that. The Nationals took another positive step in downing the first place Mets 1-0 Sunday with Doug Fister outdueling Dillon Gee. Fister tossed a three hit shutout through 6.1 innings to improve to 2-1 while four relievers held New York off the scoreboard. The Nats totaled seven hits and six bases and balls with Ryan Zimmerman driving in Jason Werth with the lone run in the first. Jordan Zimmermann shoots for his third win when the Marlins come to town on Monday. Zimmermann picked up a 13-4 win at Atlanta last time out with three runs plated on eight hits in seven frames.
Miami are 7-3 in their last 10 Monday game. The over is 6-2 in Washington’s last 8 overall and is 6-2 in their last 8 on grass while going 6-2 in their last 8 vs. National League East. Phelps has been throwing the ball well and having never faced Washington I’m not sure who that favors so I’d rather put something small on the dog and hope because I think Washington has the best shot but not for the price…
