The Cincinnati Reds battle the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field in interleague action.
The Cincinnati Reds have yet to go on a hot streak and need to do so to keep the Cardinals from getting to far ahead in the American League Central. The hot streak is on hold for a day after the Reds fell to the Pirates 7-2 on Thursday night. Starter Anthony DeSclafani struggled through five innings with three runs plated on seven hits and four free passes to absorb the loss. The pen let this one get out of hand with Kevin Gregg allowing three 7th inning runs to break open what was a one run contest. The Reds did have several chances to score with nine hits and a pair of walks but could muster just a solo homer from Todd Frazier and a double play RBI by Joey Votto. Veteran Jason Marquis opposes the White Sox Friday in an interleague match up. Marquis is shooting for his third consecutive win after beating Atlanta and Milwaukee with a combined five runs allowed on 12 hits over 14.1 frames.

The Chicago White Sox are in need of some momentum to climb back in to the American League Central picture. Winning games would do that but their modest two game streak came to an end in a 4-1 to visiting Detroit on Thursday afternoon. Jose Quintana gave up a pair of runs on four hits and two BB through five innings while whiffing eight which was a losing effort when Dan Jennings allowed two more runs. The White Sox managed five hits and walked twice with Avail Garcia singling in Melky Cabrera with their lone run. Hector Noesi gets the starting nod in Friday’s series opener against visiting Cincinnati. Noesi has started the season 0-3 with a combined 12 runs given up on 13 hits and nine BB in 14.2 innings.
Cincinnati are 1-9 in their last 10 Friday games and the under is 8-3-1 in their last 12 road games while the Reds are 16-37 in their last 53 road games. The under is 9-1-1 in Chicago’s last 11 Friday games and is 6-1-1 in their last 8 home games while going 8-3 in Noesi’s last 11 home starts. Cincinnati are 1-11 in the last 12 meetings. I am not thrilled with the pitching in this one so gun to my head…
