The Chicago Cubs battle the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park in NL Central action Saturday.

The Chicago Cubs have been fading the last few weeks and need to get their confidence back with a few wins. The Cubs took the first step with a series opening 7-6 win at Milwaukee. Jason Hammel gave up two runs on five hits and a trio of walks over seven frames before Hector Rondon nearly gave the game away with three runs plated in the 9th. The bats produced ten hits an two BB with Dexter Fowler, Anthony Rizzo, Jorge Soler and Starlin Castro slamming long balls and accounting for six runs knocked in. Left hander Travis Wood draws the starting assignment at Milwaukee Saturday. Wood is coming off his poorest start of 2015 with six runs scored on six hits and two BB over five frames of a 10-9 loss at St Louis.

The Milwaukee Brewers are struggling in a big way as they can’t get their pitching and hitting on the same page. That didn’t change in Friday’s series opening defeat to the visiting Cubs. Starter Jimmy Nelson was charged with four runs on five hits but three of those hits were homers which negated his eleven strikeouts. The Brewers did their damage on ten hits and seven walks with Khris Davis going 4-5 with a homer and three RBI’s. Ryan Braun was 2-3 with a long ball and three runs knocked in and three scored. Veteran Kyle Lohse looks for a victory versus visiting Chicago on Saturday. Lohse held the Dodgers off in a 4-3 win last time out with all three runs scored on four hits and a trio of walks in five innings.

The over is 19-7-2 in Chicago’s last 28 road games and the Cubs are 6-15 in their last 21 Saturday games while the over is 12-5-1 in their last 18 Saturday games. Milwaukee are 5-13 in their last 18 home games and  are 18-42 in their last 60 overall while going  18-42 in their last 60 games on grass. The Cubs are 9-27 in the last 36 meetings in Milwaukee and the under is 20-8 in the last 28 meetings. I find it difficult to back the Brewers nowadays but it’s even more difficult backing the Cubs because I just can’t figure them out so I will sit this out…
