The Texas Rangers continue their series at Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Texas Rangers appeared to be heating up after their sweep of AL West leading Houston but a trip to Tropicana Field changed that. The Rangers were on the wrong end of and 8-2 decision with both the arms and bats coming up short. Starter Yovani Gallardo fell to 2-5 on the year with four runs given up (three earned) on three hits and a pair of free passes over 5.1 fames while Stolmy Pimentel gave three more. That was too much for the Rangers six hit, three walk attack to contend with as an Adam Rosales homer and Adrian Beltre’s sacrifice fly were the offense. The Rangers are hoping lefty Ross Detwiler can duplicate his last outing when he faces Tampa Bay. Detwiler gave up a single run on four hits and a pair of free passes in seven innings of a 2-1 loss.

The Tampa Bay Rays seem to be as good as any team in the American League East but only time will tell if that’s a true assessment or not. It was good in the series opener against visiting Texas. Nathan Karns was outstanding on the hill with both runs given up on four hits and a pair of BB while striking out nine through seven innings to up his record to 2-1. Tampa Bay managed nine hits and two walks with Brandon Guyer going deep with three RBI’s and two runs while Evan Longoria and James Loney were 2-4 with a pair of runs. Tampa Bay gives the game two start to Jake Odorizzi who will face the Rangers for the first time in 2015. Odorizzi is coming off of a 5-1 victory at Boston with the lone run scored on seven hits and six K’s in seven frames.
Texas are 4-12 in their last 16 Saturday games and the under is 14-5-1 in their last 20 Saturday games while the over is 8-3-1 in their last 12 on astroturf. The under is 13-3 in Tampa Bay’s last 16 overall and the under is 7-2 in their last 9 games as a favorite while the Rays are 14-5 in their last 19 Saturday games. The over is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings in Tampa Bay. I don’t like the juice at all but I prefer the hard throwing Odorizzi…
