The Arizona Diamondbacks and the Washington Nationals face off on Tuesday at Chase Field for game two of their MLB series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks never got the bats going as they were bombed by the Nationals and losing on Monday. Jordan Pacheco hit a home run and Ender Inciarte and Chris Owings each had two hits as the Diamondbacks scored one run on six hits. Starting pitcher Josh Collmenter allowed eight hits and nine runs lasting just 1.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-4 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Diamondbacks start Rubby De La Rosa who has allowed 33 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 38 over 37 innings for a 3-2 record and a 4.38 ERA.

The Washington Nationals continued their strong play as they win in Arizona on Monday. Denard Sspan and Ryan Zimmerman each hit home runs and Yunel Escobar had five hits as the Nationals scored 11 runs on 15 hits. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer allowed five hits and a run while striking out six over 7.0 innings to get the win and go to 3-3 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Nationals start Stephen Strasburg who has allowed 42 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out 32 over 32.1 innings for a 2-3 record and a 4.73 ERA.
Arizona is 18-43 as an underdog, 16-40 against a team with a winning record, and 0-7 against the NL East. Washington is 6-1 in their last seven road games, 5-0 in their last five games, and 2-5 in Strasburg’s last seven starts. Washington has won their last six meetings against Arizona.
I don’t like the way that Strasburg has pitched but the Nationals are the better team and playing the better baseball right now making them the better choice.
