The San Diego Padres look to make up ground in the standings when they visit the Seattle Mariners Tuesday.
The San Diego Padres made some changes in the offseason although it’s too early to say if the team is able to challenge in the National League West. The Padres enter the series at Seattle as winners in six of ten following a 2-1 defeat at Chase Field. . Starter Andrew Cashner was outstanding in the loss to drop to 1-6 despite a 3.07 ERA. Cashner surrendered a pair of solo homers over and four hits an struck out six in seven frames. The Padres did have a few chances to score on eight hits and three walks but Jedd Gyoko drove in Will Venable with the only run. Veteran Ian Kennedy toes the rubber in his first ever meeting with the Mariners. Kennedy is shooting for win number three in a row after winning at San Francisco 9-1 with the lone run scored on six hits in seven frames.

The Seattle Mariners are hoping to make an impact in the American League West with the division up for grabs with Houston showing signs of slowing. The Mariners could be ready to make their move after a 4-3 win against visiting Oakland finished off a three game sweep. Felix Hernandez was his usual stingy self with two runs given up on solo homers through seven innings to up his record to 6-0. The bats made the most of five hits and four bases on balls with Dustin Ackley leading the way with a two run double while Kyle Seager doubled in another run and scored. Left hander James Paxton is on the bump Tuesday for his first ever start against San Diego. Paxton did not receive a decision in a 5-4 loss to the Angels where he gave up a pair of runs on four hits and a trio of BB in seven innings.
San Diego are 7-3 in their last 10 Tuesday games and the under is 13-4 in Kennedy’s last 17 road starts. The under is 37-16-3 in Seattle’s last 56 home games and is 9-4-1 in their last 14 on grass while going 9-4-1 in the Mariners last 14 overall. My feeling is that the Padres have a good shot here if the bats give Kennedy some support…
