The Los Angeles Angels and the Colorado Rockies face off on Wednesday in interleague MLB action.
The Los Angeles Angels continue to chase the Astros in the AL West and they gained a full game on Tuesday beating the Rockies. Kole Calhoun had three hits and Erick Aybar and Johnny Giavotella each had two hits as the Angels scored five runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher C.J. Wilson allowed five hits and two ruins while striking out six over 8.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 2-2 and Huston Street earned his 11th save. The Colorado Rockies are struggling badly and they lost for the 10th time in a row on Tuesday. Justin Morneau and Corey Dickerson each had two hits and Nick Hundley had a hit as the Rockies scored two ruins on five hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out five over 7.0 innings to not get a decision and Rafael Betancourt took the loss. For Wednesday’s game the Rockies start Jordan Lyles who has allowed 38 hits and 18 earned runs while striking out 21 over 36.2 innings for a 2-3 record and a 4.42 ERA.
Los Angeles is 6-1 as a home favorite, 5-1 in game two of a series, and 1-4 in Santiago’s last five starts as a home favorite. Colorado is 14-44 in their last 58 interleague games, 5-17 in their last 22 games, and 1-8 in Lyles’ last nine starts as an underdog. Colorado is 1-6 in their last seven games in Los Angeles.
It’s just tough to take the Rockies right now and while the losing won’t last forever they are going to need to prove something before I put faith in them.
