The Cincinnati Reds welcome the San Francisco Giants to Great American Ball Park Thursday.
The San Francisco Giants have been slow out of the gate and don’t want to fall too far behind the Dodgers in the National League West especially when San Diego is also improved. The Giants had their chances in a 4-3 loss at Houston Wednesday. Both the pitching and hitting came up just short with starter Tim Hudson charged with three runs on six hits including a pair of homers. Jeremy Affeldt took the loss with a solo bomb served up in the 8th. SF had plenty of runners on eleven hits and three walks with Buster Posey connecting on a two run homer and singling in a run on a 3-5 night. A red hot Tim Lincecum looks for his third consecutive shutout when he faces Cincinnati Thursday. Lincecum has thrown back to back shutouts with a combine six hits and four walks over 14 innings.

The Cincinnati Reds are desperate for a long hot streak and hope somebody can beat St Louis at the same time. Maybe Wednesday’s 5-1 win against Atlanta will be the start with the Reds getting quality work from their arms and bats. Rookie Rasiel Iglesias picked up his first major league victory with the lone run scored on two hits and three free passes through eight innings pitched. The Reds produced seven hits and walked four times with Marlon Byrd going solo while Todd Frazier went deep and knocked in two. Cincinnati is scheduled to send ace Johnny Cueto to the bump in the series opener against San Francisco. Cueto won his last start by a 10-4 count versus the White Sox where he gave up all four runs on six hits in 8.1 frames.
San Francisco are 7-2 in their last 9 games as an underdog and are 7-2 in their last 9 Thursday games while going 8-3 in their last 11 overall. The under is 9-1-2 in Cueto’s last 12 Thursday starts and is 21-6-2 in Cueto’s last 29 home starts while the Reds are 37-14 in Cuetos last 51 home starts. I think this might be a game to watch as opposed to bet but for a pick I’ll go with the Reds but I won't lay the juice...
