The San Diego Padres had no answers on offense on Saturday as they lost for the second night in a row to the Nationals. Alexi Amarista had two hits and Will Venable and Matt Kemp each had hits as the Padres scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Andrew Cashner allowed nine hits and four runs, three earned, while striking out six over 6.0 innings to take the loss. For Sunday’s game the Padres start Ian Kennedy who has allowed 28 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 20 over 24.1 innings for a 2-2 record and a 5.92 ERA.

The Washington Nationals continued their strong play as they beat the Padres on Saturday. Denard Span, Ian Desmond, Yunel Escobar, and Bryce Harper each had two hits as the Padres scored four runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer allowed four hits and struck out 11 over 7.0 scoreless innings to get the win. Or Sunday’s game the Nationals start Stephen Strasburg who has allowed 50 hits and 24 earned runs while striking out 35 over 35.2 innings for a 2-4 record and a 6.06 ERA.
San Diego is 7-3 against the NL East, 16-8 in their last 24 home games against a team with a losing road record, and 10-4 in Kennedy’s last 14 home starts. Washington is 8-2 in their last 10 games, 8-1 as a road favorite, and 2-6 in Strasburg’s last eight starts.
Iam not loving this game but I have to give the nod to the home team to level the series.
