The Minnesota Twins visit the rival Chicago White Sox to kickoff a weekend series on Friday night.
The Minnesota Twins have been a surprise to many with their play thus far and the question is can they keep it up. They have this week with wins in four of five after knocking off Pittsburgh 4-3 Wednesday. Starter Mike Pelfrey gave up a single run on five hits over six frames for a no decision while seven relievers saw action. The bats totaled ten hits and walked five times with Torii Hunter smacking a three run double in the first while Joe Mauer hit a homer in the top of the 13 for the winner. The Twins turn to Phil Hughes on the bump for his second start against the White Sox this season. Hughes defeated Tampa Bay 3-2 the last time out with both runs allowed on five hits in seven innings.

The Chicago White Sox are looking to make the American League Central a four team race The White Sox were heating up but have dropped three in a row to cool down. A 5-2 defeat to visiting Cleveland on Wednesday with both the arms and bats struggling. Starter John Danks gave up all five runs on six hits and four bases on balls including a pair of long balls through 5.1 frames to absorb the loss. The White Sox managed seven hits and walked three times with Tyler Flowers connecting on a two run homer in the 9th to avoid getting shutout. Jeff Samardzija is scheduled to take the hill in the series opener with Minnesota. Samardzija is looking to build on a 7-3 win at Oakland where he gave up all three runs on eight hits and three walks in eight frames
