The Oakland Athletics troubles continued on Thursday as they lost to the Rays in Tampa Bay. Josh Reddick, Stephen Vogt, and Brett Lawrie each had hits as the A’s failed to score on six hits. Starting pitcher Jesse Chavez allowed five hits and three runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 0-4 for the season. For Friday’s game the A’s start Scott Kazmir who has allowed 39 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out 49 over 49.2 innings for a 2-2 record and a 3.08 ERA.
Tampa Bay is 11-3 in their last 14 home games, 4-9 against a left-handed starter, and 4-9 in Archer’s last 13 home starts. Oakland is 14-6 against the AL East, 1-4 in their last five Friday games, and 1-5 in Kazmir’s last six starts. Oakland is 7-3 in their last 10 games against Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay has been a quiet killer this season and while they haven’t been at their best against lefties Kazmir hasn’t been good enough to be counted on.
