The Chicago Cubs were unable to close the deal on Friday as they lost to the Diamondbacks in extra innings. Dexter Fowler hit a home run and Jorge Soler and Junior Lake each had two hits as they scored four runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Jon Lester allowed five hits and two runs while striking out four over 7.0 innings to not get a decision as Hector Rondon blew the save and Zac Rosscup took the loss. For Saturday’s game the Cubs start Jake Arrieta who has allowed 42 hits and 16 earned runs while striking out 55 over 52 innings for a 4-4 record and a 2.77 ERA.
Arizona is 6-0 as an underdog, 4-0 against a right-handed starter, and 0-5 in their last five Saturday games. Chicago is 7-3 in game two of a series, 1-5 in their last six road games against a team with a losing record, and 15-4 in Arrieta’s last 19 starts following a loss. Chicago is 17-43 in their last 60 games in Arizona.
Friday’s loss was demoralizing for the Cubs and look for them to be hung over here as Arizona wins again.
