The Washington Nationals look for another win at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs.
The Washington Nationals have stormed from the middle of the pack in the National League East to take the division lead. The Nationals have some of the best hitting and pitching in the game and leaned on their arms to knock off the Cubs 2-1 for their 9th win in eleven contests. Tanner Roark served up a solo bomb over five frames to get the win with four relievers putting up zeros. The offense didn’t do much on five hits and three walks with Denard Span and Wilson Ramos smacking solo homers.Jordan Zimmermann toes the rubber versus the Cubs for the first time this season. Zimmermann defeated the Yankees 3-2 last time out with both runs plated on five hits in seven frames.

The Chicago Cubs are in an unfamiliar position at this point in the season; second in the National League Central. The Cubs have dropped three of four following Monday’s series opening loss to visiting Washington. The offense stalled but the pitching was solid with starter Tsuyoshi Wada serving up a solo jack with Justin Grimm allowing a homer in 2/3 of an inning to take the loss. The bats totaled five hits and walked once with Kris Bryant going 2-3 with a solo jack. Kyle Hendricks opposes the Nationals for the first time in his career on Tuesday night. Hendricks is coming off the best outing of his career with a complete game five hit shutout in a 3-0 win at San Diego.
Washington are 20-6 in their last 26 overall and are 20-6 in their last 26 games on grass while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 road games. The under is 8-2-1 in Chicago’s last 11 home games while Chicago are 12-4 in their last 16 Tuesday games and 6-2 in their last 8 home games. Washington are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Chicago and the over is 13-5 in the last 18 meetings. It seems that whenever I back Zimmermann he loses and I’m putting that theory to the test again…
