The Los Angeles Angels and the San Diego Padres face off on Tuesday for game two of their interleague series.
The Los Angeles Angels appeared to have let Monday’s game get away from them but they rallied late to get the win. Albert Pujols got the game-winning walk off hit and Matt Joyce, Carlos Perez, and Marc Krauss each had two hits as the Angels scored four runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Jered Weaver allowed six hits and a run while striking out seven over 6.2 innings to not get a decision as Joe Smith got the win. For Tuesday’s game the Angels start Matt Shoemaker who has allowed 46 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 42 over 44.1 innings for a 3-4 record and a 6.29 ERA.

The San Diego Padres appeared to be putting together a come from behind win on Monday but they let it get away as they took the loss in Anaheim. Will Venable, Justin Upton, and Will Middlebrooks each had two hits as the Padres scored three runs on nine hits. Starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed 10 hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out seven over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Kevin Quackenbush took the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Padres start Ordisamer Despaigne who has allowed 38 hits and 24 earned runs while striking out 16 over 35.1 innings for a 2-3 record and a 6.11 ERA.
Los Angeles is 5-0 in their last five interleague games as a favorite, 5-1 in their last six home games, and 21-9 in Shoemaker’s last 30 starts. San Diego is 2-5 in their last seven interleague road games, 1-5 against the AL West, and 1-5 in Despaigne’s last six road starts. San Diego is 1-5 in their last six games in Los Angeles.
The Padres had a chance to gain momentum in this series but it all got away and I look for the Angels to have the edge here.
