The Oakland A’s and the Detroit Tigers face off on Wednesday in Oakland in game three of their MLB series.
The Oakland A’s played well on Tuesday but they didn’t score any runs taking the loss. Ben Zobrist and Stephen Vogt each had two hits and Billy Burns had a hit as the Athletics didn’t score on seven hits. Starting pitcher Jesse Chavez allowed five hits and a runs while striking out four over 8.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-5 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the A’s start Scott Kazmir who has allowed 47 hits and 19 earned runs while striking out 53 over 55.1 innings for a 2-3 record and a 3.09 ERA.

The Detroit Tigers haven’t gotten a lot of offense of late but they didn’t need much to get the win on Tuesday. Anthony Gose and Andrew Romine had two hits each and Miguel Cabrera had a hit as the Tigers scored one run on six hits. Starting pitcher David Price allowed five hits and struck out three over 7.0 scoreless innings to get the win and go to 4-1 for the season and Joakim Soria earned his 14th save. For Wednesday’s game the Tigers start Alfredo Simon who has allowed 53 hits and 17 earned runs while striking out 38 over 57.1 innings for a 5-2 record and a 2.67 ERA.
Oakland is 5-15 in their last 20 games, 8-23 in game three of a series, and 1-5 in Kazmir’s last six starts as a favorite. Detroit is 6-2 against a left-handed starter, 10-4 in game three of a series, and 2-5 in their last seven games against a team with a winning percentage below .400. Detroit is 5-1 in the last six meetings with Oakland.
The Tigers are just the better team and I expect them to hit Kazmir as they hit .276 against lefties.
