The San Diego Padres and the Pittsburgh Pirates face off on Saturday at PETCO Park for game three of their series.
After losing game one of their series to the Pirates the padres rebounded to get the win on Friday. Derek Norris hit a walk-off grand slam home run, Jedd Gyorko had two hits, and Justin Upton had a hit as the Padres scored six runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher James Shields allowed six hits and two runs while striking out six over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Craig Kimbrel earned the win. For Saturday’s game the Padres start Tyson Ross who has allowed 58 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 69 over 58.2 innings for a 204 record and a 3.84 ERA.

The Pittsburgh Pirates got their series with the Padres off to a solid start with a win on Thursday but they couldn’t follow it up as they took the loss on Friday. Pedro Alvarez had two hits and Starling Marte and Neil Walker each had hits as the Pirates scored two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Francisco Liriano allowed three hits and struck out 11 over 6.0 innings without allowing a run but he didn’t factor in the decision as Rob Scahill took the loss. For Saturday’s game the Pirates start Charlie Morton who allowed eight hits and two runs over 7.0 innings to get the win over the Marlins in his only start this season.
San Diego is 5-2 in game three of a series, 8-3 as a favorite, and 2-6 in Ross’ last eight starts. Pittsburgh is 7-1 in their last eight games, 4-1 against the NL West, and 1-6 in Morton’s last seven road starts. Pittsburgh is 17-41 in their last 58 meeting with San Diego.
The Padres have been inconsistent at best so beating a god team two nights in a row, even at home is big reach so I will take my chances with the Pirates.
