The Seattle Mariners and the New York Yankees face off on Tuesday at Safeco Field for game two of their MLB series.
The Seattle Mariners just seemed off on Monday as they fell to the Yankees in a one-sided game. Kyle Seager and Austin Jackson each had two hits and Nelson Cruz had a hit as the Mariners scored two runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez had his worst outing of the year as he allowed six hits and seven runs while walking five and striking out four over 4.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 8-2 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Mariners start Mike Montgomery who is 4-3 with a 3.74 ERA over 53 innings this season at Triple-A Tacoma.

The New York Yankees have had a tough road trip but they looked great on Monday starching the Mariners. Mark Teixeira hit a grand slam home run and Alex Rodriguez and Carlos Beltran each had hits as the Yankees scored seven runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Michael Pineda allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out nine over 6.0 innings to get the win and go to 7-2 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Yankees start C.C. Sabathia who has allowed 74 hits and 38 earned runs while striking out 51 over 60.1 innings for a 2-7 record and a 5.67 ERA.
Seattle is 5-0 in game two of a series, 6-2 following a loss, and 1-5 in their last six games. New York is 4-10 in their last 14 road games, 2-7 as a favorite, and 3-10 in Sabathia’s last 13 starts. New York is 9-1 in their last 10 games against Seattle.
The Yankees have a veteran lineup and facing a first time starter I have to give them a big edge.
