The San Diego Padres pay a visit to Great American Ball Park to open a series with the Cincinnati Reds.
The San Diego Padres have the talent to defeat any team but consistency hasn’t been their forte’. The Padres have discovered their offense in winning three of four after defeating the Mets 7-3 on Wednesday night. Starter James Shields improved to 7-0 with a pair of runs plated on six hits and two BB over seven innings. SD did their damage on ten hits and a walk with Will Venable going 2-5 with two runs driven in while Justin Upton was 2-3 with two runs scored. Tyson Ross is scheduled to open the series with the Reds at Great American Ball Park Friday. Ross is coming off of a 5-2 loss to Pittsburgh where he allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits in six frames.

The Cincinnati Reds have much the same team they have had the past several years but they are struggling to win. The Reds salvaged the series finale’ at Philadelphia by a 6-4 count. The offense carried the team with starter Anthony DeSclafani allowing all four runs on six hits and a pair of bases on balls through seven innings to get the win. The bats did their damage on six hits and six free passes. Brandon Phillips was the offensive star with a 3-5 night that produced two RBI’s and a run while Skip Schumaker walked twice and scored two times. Rookie Raisel Iglesias makes his 5th career start against visiting San Diego on Friday night. Iglesias struggled in his last outing with five runs plated on nine hits and eight K’s over 5.2 innings of an 8-5 win.
The over is 7-0-1 in San Diego’s last 8 overall and is 7-0-1 in their last 8 on grass while the over is 6-2 in Padres last 8 during game 1 of a series. Cincinnati are 2-11 in their last 13 Friday games and are 2-9 in their last 11 games as an underdog while the over is 7-2-1 in the Reds last 10 home games. The under is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings. San Diego doesn’t support Ross but if the Padres win one this is the one although I’ll probably sit this one out…
