The Washington Nationals open an interleague series at the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.
The Washington Nationals were red hot a few weeks ago as they stormed to the top of the National League East. They have since slowed and have dropped to second after a 6-3 loss to the visiting Cubs Sunday. Starter Jordan Zimmermann fell to 5-3 with four runs plated on ten hits and a pair of free passes over five frames with Blake Treinen giving up two more. The Nats managed eight hits with Ian Desmond leading the way with a two run bomb while Yunel Escobar went 3-4 with an RBI. The Nationals turn to team win leader Max Scherzer to the hill to oppose the Yankees in New York. Scherzer saw a five game winning streak end in a 7-3 loss to Toronto where he allowed four runs on six hits and four BB in six frames.

The New York Yankees look like they might be the team to beat in the American League East which looks like a free for all right now. The Yankees polished off the Angels 6-2 behind strong performances on the mound and at the plate. CC Sabathia gave up both runs on a pair of solo homers while whiffing seven through six frames to get the win. The Bronx Bombers did their damage on seven homers with Brett Gardner cracking a three run bomb while Chris Young and Jose Pirela connected on solo jacks. Mashiro Tanaka toes the rubber for game one of the series with Washington on Tuesday. Tanaka came off the disabled list to defeat Seattle 3-1 on the road with the lone run scored on three hits while striking out nine in seven frames.
The over is 6-2-1 in Washington’s last 9 interleague games. The over is 7-3 in New York’s last 10 on grass and is 7-3 in their last 10 overall while the under is 6-2 in Tanaka’s last 8 home starts. Yankees are playing well and the key is whether Tanaka stays healthy…
