The Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres conclude their weekday series at Turner Field on Thursday.
The goal of the San Diego Padres is to avoid losing streaks and prevent San Francisco and Los Angeles from pulling too far ahead in the National League West. The Padres fell off the pace with a 4-1 loss at Atlanta on Wednesday night where the bats were silent. Starter Tyson Ross gave up three runs on nine hits and two free passes over six frames to take the loss. SD posted five hits and walked twice with Cory Spangenberg going 3-4 with two doubles and an RBI with Ross scoring. Andrew Cashner draws the start in the final game of the series at Atlanta. Cashner has struggled the last two times out with a combined 12 earned runs scored on 19 hits and five BB in 10.1 innings.

The Atlanta Braves main goal is to reach .500 and go from there because .500 is not that far off the pace in the National League East. The Braves took another step towards their goal with Wednesday’s win giving them back to back victories. Starter Williams Perez was outstanding with the lone run plated on four hits and two bases on balls through seven frames to pick up the win. The Bravos pounded out 14 hits and walked three times with Cameron Maybin going 2-3 with an RBI while AJ Pierzynski going 3-4 with a pair of runs. Julio Teheran is slated to be on the bump to oppose San Diego in the final game of their series. Teheran comes in off of a 5-4 win against Pittsburgh where he allowed all four runs on five hits over 7.1 innings.
The over is 12-3-1 in San Diego’s last 16 overall and is 12-3-1 in their last 16 on grass while the Padres are 7-19 in their last 26 Thursday games. The over is 5-1-2 in Atlanta’s last 8 Thursday game and is 12-3-1 in their last 16 games as a favorite while going 20-7-2 in Braves last 29 home games. Neither hurler is overwhelming me but the Braves might be a bit better in this spot…
