The Kansas City Royals open an interleague series at Busch Stadium with the St Louis Cardinals.
After a slowdown period the Kansas City Royals are back to their winning ways with their work on the mound leading the way to a four game winning streak. The Royals knocked off the Twins 7-2 at Target Field with both the arms and bats contributing. Starter Edison Volquez allowed a single run on six hits and a trio of free passes over seven innings to up his record to 5-4. The offense didn’t waste the effort with seven hits and a pair of walks with Alex Gordon slugging a first inning three run homer while Alcides Escobar went 2-5 with two runs. Yordano Ventura draws the series opening start versus St Louis for the second time in two weeks. Ventura struggled in the first meeting with four runs plated on five hits of a 6-1 defeat.

The St Louis Cardinals are showing no signs of slowing although they did have trouble at Coors Field this week. The Cardinals salvaged the final game of the series Wednesday after a 4-2 victory. Starter Carlos Martinez led the way with both plated on eight hits and a walk through 6.1 frames to improve to 7-2. The offense had plenty of chances on eleven hits and three walks with Randal Grichuck going solo while Matt Carpenter and Mark Reynolds drove in runs. Jaime Garcia will be on the mound to face Kansas City for his 4th start of the season on Friday. Garcia has been shutout in back to back outings where he has allowed three runs on nine hits in 14 innings.
The under is 5-1-2 in Kansas City’s last 8 games following a win while the Royals are 10-3 in their last 13 Friday games with the under going 18-7-3 in the Royals last 28 on grass. St Louis are 41-12 in their last 53 home games and are 10-3 in their last 13 Friday games while the under is 20-7-1 in their last 28 on grass. The Royals are 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. I don’t have a strong feel for this either way so I’m not playing it…
