The Kansas City Royals just didn’t have a lot of scoring chances on Friday as they fell to the Cardinals. Mike Moustakas had two hits and Lorenzo Cain and Eric Hosmer had hits as the Royals were shut out on five hits. Starting pitcher Yordano Ventura allowed four hits and two runs while striking out two over just 3.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-6 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Royals start Jeremy Guthrie who has allowed 69 hits and 39 earned runs while striking out 25 over 60.1 innings for a 4-3 record and a 5.82 ERA.
St. Louis is 6-1 against a team with a winning record, 52-19 as a favorite, and 1-6 in Lyons’ last seven starts. Kansas City is 9-5 against the NL Central, 1-4 against a left-handed starter, and 6-1 in Guthrie’s last seven road starts.
I am expecting a lot of ruins in this one and I don’t see either of these pitchers going too far but the Royals offense seemed to be compromised missing DH Kendrys Morales so unless they can figure that out I am going to go with the Cardinals in what is a lean at best.
