The Philadelphia Phillies travel down the interstate to face the Baltimore Orioles in interleague action.
The Philadelphia Phillies are just trying to stay afloat in the National League East and that hasn’t been happening with neither the pitching and offense able to get going. On Sunday the work on the mound was outstanding but the bats were not in a 1-0, 13 inning defeat at Pittsburgh on Saturday. Cole Hamels was at his best with a four hit shutout over seven frames while striking out 12 before Jonathan Papelbon allowed an unearned run to take the loss. The Phils offense consisted of six hits and a walk with Ben Revere and Jeff Francoeur both going 2-5. Philadelphia kicks off the series at Baltimore with Aaron Harang on the bump. Harang has struggled the past two times out with a combined 13 runs allowed on 13 hits and five BB over 11.2 frames.

The Baltimore Orioles appear poised to make a big run in the American League East as both the arms and bats have been on the same page for two weeks. The Baltimore Orioles took a step back fro their winning ways with a 5-3 loss to the visiting Yankees on Sunday but have still won eight of eleven. Starter Mike Wright was in constant trouble in his four frames with five runs plated on six hits and three bases on balls to fall to 2-2. A six hit, five walk attack wasn’t enough to keep up with Nolan Reimold swinging the big bat with a two run single while also walking and scoring. Left hander Wei-Yin Chen draws Monday’s start for his first ever match up with the Phillies. Chen will be looking for back to back victories after knocking off Boston 5-2 with both runs scored on seven hits in five innings.
The over is 8-3 in Philadelphia’s last 11 overall and is 8-3 in their last 11 on grass while the Phillies are 16-42 in their last 58 road games. Baltimore are 13-5 in their last 18 Monday games and 55-25 in their last 80 home games. I don’t like the chalk but I’m looking no further then the hotter team…
