The San Diego Padres and the Oakland A’s face off on Tuesday at PETCO Park for game two of their interleague series.
The San Diego Padres were never in it on Monday as they fell to the Athletics. Will Venable, Cory Spangenberg, and Derek Norris each had hits as the Padres scored one run on five hits. Starting pitcher Tyson Ross allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out six over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 3-7 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the Padres start Andrew Cashner who has allowed 91 hits and 37 earned runs while striking out 75 over 80 innings for a 2-8 record and a 4.16 ERA.

The Oakland A’s got the lead on Monday and never looked back as they flattened the Padres in San Diego. Stephen Vogt hit a home run, Brett Lawrie had three hits, and Josh Reddick had a hit as the A’s scored nine runs on 13 hits. Starting pitcher Jesse Hahn allowed three hits and a run while striking out four over 6.2 innings to get the win to go to 4-5 for the season. For Tuesday’s game the A’s start Scott Kazmir who has allowed 57 hits and 22 earned runs while striking out 67 over 71 innings for a 3-4 record and a 2.79 ERA.
San Diego is 5-1 in game two of a series, 1-5 in their last six interleague games as a favorite, and 0-5 in Cashner’s last five home starts. Oakland is 8-2 against the NL West, 36-17 in their last 53 interleague games, and 1-6 in Kazmir’s last seven starts. Oakland is 6-2 in the last eight meetings of these two.
The Padres looked lifeless and uninspired on Monday and I look for the A’s to mow them down once again here.
