The Minnesota Twins jumped on the Cubs early on Friday and coasted to a home win. Trevor Plouffe, Brian Dozier, and Eddie Escobar each had two hits and as the Twins scored seven runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Phil Hughes allowed two hits and a run while striking out four over 8.0 innings to get the win and go to 5-6 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Twins start Trevor May who has allowed 73 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 58 over 67.2 innings for a 4-5 record and a 4.26 ERA.

The Chicago Cubs looked overmatched on Friday as they lost to the Twins at Target Field. Anthony Rizoo had two hits including a home run and Miguel Montero and Addison Russell each had hits as the Cubs scored two runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks allowed 11 hits and six runs while striking out one over 5.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 2-3 for the season. For Saturday’s game the Cubs start Jon Lester who has allowed 88 hits and 35 earned runs while striking out 74 over 79 innings for a 4-5 record and a 3.99 ERA.
