The Oakland A’s and the Los Angeles Angels face off on Saturday in game two of their MLB series of AL West teams.
The Oakland A’s have been the worst team in the American League West and they looked the part on Friday getting stomped by the Angels. Stephen Vogt and Billy Burns each hit home runs and Ben Zobrist and Brett Lawrie had two hits each as the A’s scored seven runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher Sonny Gray allowed five hits and six runs while striking out two over 6.0 innings to not get a decision as Edward Mujica took the loss to fall to 2-2 for the season. For Saturday’s game the A’s start Jesse Hahn who has allowed 71 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 49 over 77 innings for a 4-5 record and a 3.62 ERA.

The Los Angeles Angels continued to keep the AL West leading Astros within their sight as they beat the A’s on Friday. Albert Pujols hit his 20th Home run of the season and Erick Aybar, Johnny Giavotella had two hits, and Chris Ianetta had two hits as the Angels scored 12 runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker allowed eight hits and five runs while striking out two over 4.0 innings to not get the decision as Fernando Salas got the win. For Saturday’s game the Angels start Jered Weaver who has allowed 98 hits and 47 earned runs while striking out 45 over 91 innings for a 4-7 record and a 4.65 ERA.
Oakland is 6-2 against a right-handed starter, 7-16 against the AL West, and 2-5 in Hahn’s last seven home starts. Los Angeles is 5-2 against a right-handed starter, 2-6 as a road underdog, and 2-6 in Weaver’s last 8 starts as a road underdog. Los Angeles has won five of their last six games against Oakland.
Weaver hasn’t been sharp of late but the Angels are clearly the better team and they get the best of this one.
