The Cleveland Indians welcome the rival Detroit Tigers to Progressive Field on Monday night.
The Detroit Tigers know they need to right the ship if they expect to challenge Kansas City for first in the American League Central. The Tigers had lost four in a row before pummeling the Yankees 12-4 on the road Sunday. Starter Anibal Sanchez stopped the bleeding with three runs scored on seven hits including two homers in seven innings. The offense pounded out 15 hits and walked five times with JD Martinez hitting three homers and driving in six with Victor Martinez going 3-5 with four RBI’s and a pair of runs. The Tigers are slated to start Kyle Ryan for the third time when he squares off with Cleveland on the road. Ryan looks to bounce back from a 5-2 loss to Cincinnati where he allowed four runs on three homers in 6.1 frames.

The Indians had dropped three of four before upending Tampa Bay 1-0 on Sunday. This was all about the work on the mound and starter Cody Anderson threw a six hit shutout over 7.2 frames with to relievers mopping up. The bats were one hit over seven innings before David Murphy drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 9th to plate Roberto Perez with the winner. Thee Indians give Monday’s start against the Tigers to right hander Trevor Bauer. Bauer is coming off one of his best efforts in a 6-0 win versus the Cubs where he tossed seven innings of four hit ball.
Detroit are 2-8 in their last 10 road games. Cleveland are 1-12 in their last 13 Monday games and are 2-6 in their last 8 home games. The over is 13-3 in the last 16 meetings in Cleveland while Detroit are 20-6 in the last 26 meetings in Cleveland. These teams seem to break out the lumber when they meet so my initial thought is over…
