The Line: Washington Nationals / Atlanta Braves --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Atlanta Braves visit the Nation’s Capital to challenge the Washington Nationals in Tuesday action.
The Atlanta Braves did not figure to be in the picture of the National League East although they are sitting third so far in the division with plenty of time to make a move. The Brave took down Matt Harvey and the Mets 1-0 on Sunday to stay within shouting distance in the division although they will need to keep adding up the wins to be a factor. The Bravos can thank their pitching Sunday with starter Julio Teheran throwing a one hit shutout over seven innings to up his record to 5-3. The bats mustered six hits and walked three times with pinch hitter Pedro Ciriaco singling in Ryan Lavarnway in the 7th. Alex Wood toes the rubber versus Washington Tuesday for the second meeting in 2015. Wood defeated Boston 5-2 last time out with two runs plated (one earned) in six frames.

The Washington Nationals were handed the National League East title by the experts before the season even began but they are getting a fight from the Mets and the Braves aren’t terribly far off the pace. The Nationals have given us a taste of what their potential is the past two days as they outscored the Pirates 15-2. The Nats downed Pittsburgh 9-2 Sunday with Gio Gonzalez tossing a four hit shutout through seven frames to up his record to 5-4. The offense supplied the support on 12 hits that saw Bryce Harper slam a two run bomb while Yunel Escobar was 2-5 with a homer, three RBI’s and two runs. The entire starting lineup all reached base with Gonzalez helping himself with an RBI and run. Stephen Strasburg is slated to come off the DL in time to face Atlanta. In ten starts Strasburg was 3-5 with a 6.55 ERA.
The over is 10-1 in Atlanta’s last 11 Tuesday games and is 8-1-1 in their last 10 road games while the Braves are 7-21 in their last 28 Tuesday games. Washington are 3-7 in their last 10 games following a win and Atlanta are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in Washington. If Zimmermann gets the start for the Nationals I give them a slight nod…
