The Los Angeles Dodgers look to stretch their lead in the NL West with a win at the Chicago Cubs.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been hanging on to first in the National League West although they have been struggling. The struggles continued with a 1-0 defeat at Wrigley Field on Tuesday night with the offense failing to generate anything which squandered a strong start from Zack Greinke with six scoreless frames. Joey Peralta allowed a 10th inning run to absorb the defeat but the offense mustered just three hits and walked three times as they could not get anything going against the Chicago pitching. Michael Bolsinger needs to bounce back from a poor outing in his last start versus San Francisco. Bolsinger was charged with five runs in a 9-5 defeat on eight hits and three BB in 5.1 innings.

The Chicago Cubs are still hanging around in the National League Central which is something we haven’t seen this late in the season for a long time. The Cubs have been showing signs of heating up with Tuesday’s win being their 5th straight. Starter Jason Hammel was at the top of his game with a two hit shutout through 7.2 frames while three relievers held the Dodgers at bay. The Cubbies didn’t rack up the hits with five with three walks but they finally scored in the 10th when Matt Szczur scored the winner on Chris Denofia’s sacrifice fly. Kyle Hendricks is scheduled to oppose the Dodgers for the second time in his career. Hendricks was hit hard in a 7-2 loss at Minnesota where he was charges with all seven runs on eleven hits over five frames.
Los Angeles are 2-10 in their last 12 games as an underdog and the over is 6-2 in their last 8 Wednesday games while the Dodgers are 2-6 in their last 8 overall. The under is 15-5-1 in Chicago’s last 21 home games and is 6-2-1 in their last 9 overall while the under is 6-2-1 in the Cubs last 9 on grass. The over is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings while Los Angeles are 7-2 in the last 9 meetings in Chicago. We could argue about which team has an edge or look elsewhere…
