The Los Angeles Angels and the Houston Astros face off on Wednesday in Anaheim as they continue their MLB series of American League West teams.
The Los Angeles Angels let Tuesday’s game get away from them early as they lost to the Astros. Albert Pujols, Kole Calhoun, and Mike Trout all had hits as the Angels scored three runs on 11 hits. Starting pitcher C.J. Wilson allowed eight hits and seven runs while striking out three over 3.1 innings to take the loss and fall to 5-6 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Angels start Matt Shoemaker who has allowed 73 hits and 42 earned runs while striking out 66 over 72.2 innings for a 4-5 record and a 5.20 ERA.

The Houston Astros clubbed the Angels on Tuesday cruising to a double-digit win. Carlos Correa and Luis Valbuena each had three hits including a home run and Chris Carter had two hits as the Astros scored 13 runs on 16 hits. Starting pitcher Collin McHugh allowed nine hits and two runs while striking out six over 8.0 innings to get the win and go to 8-3 for the season. For Wednesday’s game the Astros start Lance McCullers who has allowed 28 hits and 11 earned runs while striking out 46 over 40.1 innings for a 3-2 record and a 2.45 ERA.
Los Angeles is 6-2 as a favorite, 9-5 in their last 14 home games, and 24-11 in Shoemaker’s last 35 starts. Houston is 14-6 in game three of a series, 3-6 as a road underdog, and 4-10 in their last 14 road games. Houston is 4-11 in their last 15 games in Los Angeles.
While McCullers is still unproven in my book the Astros looked extremely confident on Tuesday and I expect that to carry over to this one.
