The Washington Nationals look to expand their lead over the Atlanta Braves in NL East action.
The Atlanta Braves need to win series and string wins together to put some pressure on the Nationals. They had a chance to do just that Tuesday but their offense stalled in a 3-1 defeat at DC. Starter Alex Wood absorbed the loss with all three runs scored on ten hits over seven innings but that was too much for the offense. The Bravos logged nine hits and walked twice with Cameron Maybin clubbing his 6th homer while Nick Markakis went 3-4 with three singles. Shelby Miller gets the ball Wednesday at Washington looking for win number six. Miller was let down by his defense in a 5-2 loss to Boston with four runs plated (three earned) on seven hits in 5.2 frames.

The Washington Nationals have taken over first in the National League East but whether that’s permanent remains to be seen. The Nationals edged closer to a hot streak with their 4th consecutive win on Tuesday night which stretched their lead in the East. Stephen Strasburg was outstanding in his return from the disabled list with a four hit shutout through five innings to get the win. The Nats hammered out 12 hits with Anthony Rendon going 4-4 with an RBI while Denard Span and Michael Taylor both recording two hits, an RBI and a run. The Nationals go with Jordan Zimmermann on the bump for his third start against Atlanta in 2015. Zimmermann received zero help in a 5-0 loss to Tampa Bay last time out with three runs plated over seven innings.
The over is 8-1-1 in Atlanta’s last 10 road games while the Braves are 6-2 in Miller’s last 8 road starts. Washington are 63-27 in their last 90 Wednesday games and are 23-11 in their last 34 games as a favorite while the Nationals are 18-5 in Zimmermann’s last 23 Wednesday starts. The Braves are 1-7 in the last 8 meetings in Washington and the over is 8-3 in Zimmermann’s last 11 starts vs. Atlanta. I have seen Washington win a few games before and look ready to explode only to fall to earth with a thud so use some caution…
