The Los Angeles Angels welcome the Seattle Mariners to town for the start of a weekend series on Friday.
The Seattle Mariners had hoped to be over .500 and among the teams challenging for the American League West lead but neither have come about yet. The Mariners are looking for some momentum after an 8-2 loss at Kansas City on Wednesday left the team staring at losses in three of four. Starter Roenis Elias fell to 4-5 with seven runs allowed on five hits and a walk over 3.2 innings with the Royals scoring seven times in the 4th. The M’s could not come back with their nine hit attack that featured no extra base hits or walks. Franklin Gutierrez knocked in a run with Brad Miller and Austin Jackson scoring. The Mariners are hoping Taijuan Walker continues his hot pitching when he opposes the Angels for the first time. Walker defeated Houston 6-3 last time out with all three runs allowed on five hits including two homers in 6.1 frames.

The Los Angeles Angels were expected to repeat as American League West Champions in 2015 but instead are fighting to stay above the .500 mark. The Angels did take two of three from Houston after a 2-1, 13 inning victory on Wednesday. Rookie Andrew Heaney was outstanding in his major league debut with a four hit shutout over six frames while five relievers held the Astros off the scoreboard. The offense totaled nine hits and walked six times with Chris Iannetta and Taylor Featherstone driving in runs while Albert Pujols and Erick Aybar scored. Matt Shoemaker toes the rubber against Seattle Friday for the third time on the season. Shoemaker was hit hard in a 12-7 win at Oakland where he was charged with five runs and a pair of long balls over four innings.
The under is 8-1-1 in Seattle’s last 10 Friday games. The Angels are 24-11 in Shoemaker’s last 35 starts and the under is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. Right now I’d do something small on the home team and I’d look elsewhere because neither is playing great…
