The Pittsburgh Pirates shoot for a win at PNC Park against the visiting Atlanta Braves.
The Atlanta Braves need to limit the slow times in order to challenge in the National League East but only time will tell how that works out. It hasn’t been working out lately with the Braves falling in four straight after a 3-2, ten inning loss at PNC Park on Friday. Starter Williams Perez allowed a pair of runs on four hits and two free passes over 4.2 frames before Jason Grilli allowed the winner in the 10th in 1/3 of an inning. The Bravos posted six hits and walked four times with Juan Uribe smacking a solo homer while Ryan Lavarnway singled in Chris Johnson. The Braves are hoping Julio Teheran can duplicate his last outing when he takes on Pittsburgh for the second time. Teheran shutdown the Mets 1-0 with a one hitter over seven innings pitched.

A few short weeks ago the Pittsburgh Pirates were one of the hottest teams in the game but not so much lately. The Pirates squeezed out a much needed win on Friday night but have still lost five of seven. Lefty Francisco Liriano was outstanding with both runs plated on six hits and three bases on balls through seven frames for a no decision. The Buccos racked up eleven hits and walked four times with Pedro Alvarez going 2-5 with two RBI’s while Jordy Mercer was 3-5 and knocked in Neil Walker. The Pirates send right hander Charlie Morton to the bump on Saturday for game two of their series with Atlanta. Morton suffered through a 9-2 loss at Washington in his last outing with all nine runs scored on eight hits in just 2/3 of an inning.
The over is 8-1 in Teheran’s last 9 starts on grass and is 13-3 in Teheran’s last 16 starts overall. Pittsburgh are 20-7 in their last 27 games as a favorite and are 53-26 in their last 79 home games. Atlanta are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings and the under is 32-15-4 in the last 51 meetings. I’ve never been a big Morton fan but he could change my mind…
