The San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks match up in game two of their series at Petco Park.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are hanging around in the National League West but hanging around and challenging are two different things. The Diamondbacks are playing around .500 baseball and will need better scoring then we saw in Friday’s 4-2 loss to make a run in the division. Starter Robbie Ray took the loss with three runs given up (two earned) over six innings. The Snakes were silent at the plate on two hits and six walks. Red hot Paul Goldschmidt doubling in AJ Pollock and Robby Ray. Jeremy Hellickson gets the call to the mound in his second straight outing on Saturday. Hellickson defeated the Padres 7-2 with both runs scored on six hits and seven strikeouts over six frames.

The San Diego Padres are in need of several strong runs to get back in the National League West before the All Star break. The Padres had been on the verge of a slump and despite their win on Friday they have still dropped seven of eleven. Tyson Ross improved to 5-7 with both run allowed on only two hits but five free passes through six innings pitched. SD totaled eight hits with Matt Kemp, Yonder Alonso and Justin Upton knocking in runs. Andrew Cashner toes the rubber in game number two of the series with visiting Arizona. Cashner opposes the Diamondbacks in back to back outings after a 7-2 loss to them with all seven runs scored in four innings.
The over is 6-2 in Arizona’s last 8 Saturday games while the Diamondbacks are 7-3 in their last 10 games as an underdog and 3-7 in their last 10 Saturday games. The over is 20-6-1 in San Diego’s last 27 games as a favorite and is 6-2 in their last 8 during game 2 of a series while the over is 19-7-1 in the Padres last 27 home games. The over is 7-3 in Cashner’s last 10 starts versus Arizona. San Diego struggles to win with Cashner and if I were betting this I would go small on the better odds…
