The New York Yankees shoot for back to back wins at Minute Maid Park against the Houston Astros.
The New York Yankees are looking to reclaim the top spot in the American League East but that that will require a few hot streaks. The Yankees have won three of four after outscoring Houston 9-6 on Saturday. Starter Masahiro Tanaka was charged with all six runs on seven hits including three homers over five innings before four relievers held the Stros scoreless. The Yanks did their damage on ten hits and seven walks with Brian McCann hitting a grand slam while Chris Young went deep and drove in two and scored three times. Chase Headley went solo with Mark Texiera driving in two and Brett Gardner scoring three times as the NYY squandered a 6-0 lead only to rally late. Michael Pineda will be looking for redemption when he takes the ball against Houston on Sunday. Pineda comes off an 11-8 defeat to Philadelphia where he gave up eight runs on eleven hits in three innings.

The Houston Astros have been right around the .500 mark the past few weeks and that isn’t hurting them now but they will have to play better. The pitching will have to be much better then we saw Saturday or the Astros will be in trouble. Brett Oberholtzer suffered through the shortest outing of his career with sic runs scored on four hits including a grand slam over 1.1 frames before Pat Neshek gave up two in the 8th and Tony Sipp served up a 9th inning homer. Chris Carter and Carlos Correa went deep and knocked in two each while Jose Altuve hit a solo shot. Right hander Collin McHugh opposes the Yankees for the first time in his career. McHugh has won consecutive outings with a combined five runs given up on 13 hits and seven BB in 14 frames.
The over is 7-2 in New York’s last 9 overall and is 7-2 in their last 9 on grass while the Yankees are 9-4 in their last 13 Sunday games. Houston are 12-4 in their last 16 Sunday games and are 10-2 in McHugh’s last 12 home starts while the Astros are 17-5 in McHugh’s last 22 starts on grass. The under is 8-0 in the last 8 meetings in Houston and is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings. The Astros as small home dogs is how I’m looking in this toss up…
