Starting pitcher Matt Wisler allowed one hits and struck out six over 5.1 innings to get the win and go to 2-1 for the season and Jason Grilli earned his 22nd save. The Washington Nationals couldn’t get any offense going on Wednesday as they lost in Atlanta. Denard Span, Danny Espinosa, and Bryce Harper all had hits as the Nationals scored one run on four hits. Starting pitcher Doug Fister allowed seven hits and four runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings to tale the loss and fall to 3-4 for the season. For Thursday’s game the Nationals start Max Scherzer who has allowed 73 hits and 22 earned runs while striking out 130 over 110.1 innings for a 9-5 record and a 1.79 ERA.
Atlanta is 5-1 at home against a team with a winning record, 2-6 as an underdog, and 2-6 in their last eight games. Washington is 9-2 in their last 11 games, 7-2 as a favorite, and 8-1 in Scherzer’s last nine starts as a favorite. Washington is 16-6 in their last 22 games against Atlanta.
It’s just tough to go against Scherzer as no one has strung together wins like he has in the past few seasons and while he is the pick here I am excited to see what Banuelos can do.
