The New York Mets travel to the west coast to open a series with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday.
The New York Mets are second in the National League East but are struggling to stay above the .500 mark. That struggle continued in Thursday’s 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Cubs at Citi Field. Red hot Jacob deGrom couldn’t keep it going with four runs given up (three earned) on seven hits and two free passes over 5.1 innings to absorb the loss with Alexander Torres allowing two runs in the 9th. The offense never got their feet under them on a five hit attack that saw Curtis Granderson double in deGom who also doubled. Rookie Noah Syndergaard goes to the mound for his first meeting against the Dodgers. Syndergaard comes off of a 2-1 win versus Cincinnati where he gave up the lone run on five hits in eight frames.
USA TODAY Sports
The Los Angeles Dodgers are leading the National League West once again but their lead is not comfortable over San Francisco. The Dodgers have won three of four after downing Arizona 4-3 at Chase Field on Wednesday to win the series. Starter Brett Anderson limited the Diamondbacks to a run on seven hits over seven innings to improve to 5-4. The Dodgers posted nine hits and walked four times with Howie Kendrick driving in two runs while Enrique Hernandez went 3-5 with and RBI and a pair of runs. Ace Clayton Kershaw is riding a three game losing streak when he opposes the Mets on Friday. Kershaw has thrown the ball well in those defeats with seven runs allowed on 16 hits and 28 strikeouts over 20 1nnings.
The under is 8-1 in New York’s last 9 on grass and is 13-3 in their last 16 overall while the Mets are 6-21 in their last 27 road games. Los Angeles are 6-2 in their last 8 overall and are 6-2 in their last 8 games on grass while going 8-3 in their last 11 Friday games. The over is 12-2-2 in the last 16 meetings and the Mets are 3-13 in the last 16 meetings. Kershaw is losing games and the Mets are a team you never know about so that makes this a bad betting opportunity for me…
