The Oakland A’s and the Seattle Mariners face off on Friday in Oakland in game two of their MLB series.
The Oakland A’s rode a strong pitching performance on Thursday to a win in game one over the Mariners. Marcus Semien hit a home run and Josh Phegley and Billy Butler each had hits as the Athletics scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Scott Kazmir allowed just two hits and struck out seven over 8.0 innings to get the win and raise his record to 5-5. For Friday’s game the A’s start Jesse Chavez who has allowed 81 hits and 30 earned runs while striking out 77 over 89.1 innings for a 4-7 record and a 3.02 ERA.

The Seattle Mariners troubles o offense continued on Thursday as they lost in Oakland. Franklin Guitierrez had two hits and Nelson Cruz struck out twice as the Mariners were shutout on two hits total. Starting pitcher Roenis Elias who allowed three hits and three runs while striking out seven over 6.0 innings to take the loss and fall to 4-6 for the season. For Friday’s game the Mariners start J.A. Happ who has allowed 92 hits and 37 earned runs while striking out 67 over 85.2 innings for a 3-5 record and a 3.89 ERA.
Oakland is 6-0 against the American League West, 6-24 against a left-handed starter, and 4-10 in Chavez’s last 14 starts. Seattle is 6-2 as an underdog, 6-2 in Friday games, and 0-6 in Happ’s last six starts. Seattle is 5-1 in their last six games against Oakland.
I don’t love this game but it is a lean to the A’s at home as Chavez has been the better of these two pitchers, barely.
