The St Louis Cardinals continue their series at Busch Stadium with the San Diego Padres.
The San Diego Padres are still in the mix in the National League West but first they need to reach .500. The Padres snapped a three game skid with a 5-3 win in the series opener at St Louis in eleven innings. Tyson Ross allowed all three runs on four hits and five free passes with five relievers closing the deal. SD did their damage on eight hits and six walks with Yangervis Solarte, Tyson Ross and Will Venable smacking solo homers. Andrew Cashner shoots for back to back victories when he opposes the Cardinals on Friday. Cashner comes off of a 7-2 win versus Arizona with both runs allowed on eight hits in seven frames.

The St Louis Cardinals are looking as if the National League Central is theirs for the taking but Pittsburgh is not too far behind and there is no time to relax. The Cardinals saw their two game winning streak end with Thursday’s defeat as their offense was unable to get going. Tim Cooney gave his team a shot with three runs given up (two earned) on a pair of solo jacks. Calos Villanueva absorbed the loss with a homer and two runs plated in the 11th. The Redbirds managed nine hits and walked six times with Matt Carpenter going 2-4 with an RBI and two runs with Jason Heyward going 2-4 and knocking in a run. The Cardinals turn to Michael Wacha for the game two start against visiting San Diego. Wacha defeated the Cubs 8-1 in his last outing with the lone run plated on six hits in six innings pitched.
The over is 21-10-2 in San Diego’s last 33 overall and is 21-10-2 in their last 33 on grass while the Padres are 5-12 in Cashner’s last 17 starts. St Louis are 13-3 in their last 16 Friday games and are 44-12 in their last 56 home games while going 41-13 in their last 54 games as a favorite. San Diego are 13-43 in the last 56 meetings in St. Louis and are 35-78 in the last 113 meetings. I like the Cards to bounce back here but I don't like the chalk...
