The Chicago Cubs and the Miami Marlins face off on Sunday at Wrigley Field for game three of their MLB series.
The Chicago Cubs rode some big hitting to avenge Friday’s loss and beat the Marlins on Saturday. Kris Bryant hit two home runs including a grand slam and Dexter Fowler and Chris Denorfia each had hits as the Cubs scored seven runs on four hits. Starting pitcher Clayton Richard allowed eight hits and two runs while striking out four over 6.1 innings to get the win and go to 1-0 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Cubs start Kyle Hendricks who has allowed 84 hits and 39 earned runs while striking out 69 over 84.2 innings for a 3-4 record and a 4.15 ERA.

The Miami Marlins fell behind early on Saturday and were never in the game as they lost to the Cubs. Christian Yelich, Adeiny Hechavarria and Cole Gillespie each had two hits as the Marlins scored two runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Jared Cosart was simply awful allowing four hits and seven runs while striking two and lasting just 1.2 innings to take the loss and fall to 1-4 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Marlins start Mat Latos who has allowed 74 hits and 40 earned runs while striking out 60 over 68.1 innings for a 3-5 record and a 5.27 ERA.
Chicago is 6-1 against the NL East, 2-6 against a right-handed starter, and 9-2 in Hendricks’ last 11 home starts. Miami is 4-1 in their last five games, 5-13 as an underdog, and 2-5 in Latos’ last seven starts.
The Marlins were never in Saturday’s game but look for them to bounce back here as Latos appears to at the very least be on his way to finding his game and that’s good enough to beat the Cubs.
