The Tampa Bay Rays make the trip to Kauffman Stadium to begin a series with the Kansas City Royals.
The Tampa Bay Rays have been something of a free fall since dropping out of first in the American League East. The Rays had slumped to losses in nine of ten before pounding the Yankees in New York 8-1. Erasmo Ramirez held the Yanks in check with the lone run allowed on three hits and a trio of BB over six innings to up his record to 7-3. The offense totaled nine hits and walked five times with James Loney, Logan Forsythe and Curt Casali driving in two runs each while Evan Longoria scored twice. Tampa Bay is slated to send Matt Moore to the hill in game one of their DH with Kansas City. Moore did not get a decision in a 5-4 loss at Cleveland with four runs allowed on six hits over 4.2 frames.

The Kansas City Royals might be sitting atop the American League Central but they haven’t been playing well. The Royals had lost five of six before squeezing past visiting Minnesota 3-2 on Sunday. Starter Danny Duffy did not get a decision despite allowing just two runs on five hits and a trio of free passes through 6.1 frames while three relievers held the Twins scoreless. KC managed just four hits and four bases on balls with Alex Gordon going solo with Eric Hosmer and Drew Butera driving in runs. Chris Young toes the rubber against Tampa Bay in the first game of their twin bill. Young dropped a 2-0 decision to Minnesota last time out with a run plated on six hits over 5.1 frames.
The under is 9-2 in Tampa Bay’s last 11 on grass and is 23-8-1 in the Rays last 32 road games while going 23-9 in their last 32 games as an underdog. Kansas City are 10-3 in their last 13 games as a favorite and are 9-3 in their last 12 Monday games while the over is 6-2-2 in the Royals last 10 Monday games. Tampa Bay are 1-8 in the last 9 meetings in Kansas City and are 3-10 in the last 13 meetings. Moore lost some velocity in his first game back from Tommy John surgery and I don’t know if it returns this quickly…
