The Tampa Bay Rays conclude their series at Kauffman Stadium against the Kansas City Royals.
The Tampa Bay Rays are in big trouble with exactly one win in two weeks heading in to Wednesday’s match up with the Royals. Add another one to the loss column after a 9-7 loss at Kansas City on Thursday. Starter Chris Archer was hammered for all nine runs on 12 hits including a pair of long balls through six innings. The offense had a strong effort with a 14 hit, four walk attack that saw Logan Forsythe go solo with Rene Rivera going deep with two RBI’s and two runs. Evan Longoria knocked in three and John Jasco was 3-4 with a pair of runs. Nathan Karns looks to continue his hot work on the mound when he opposes Kansas City on Thursday. Karns is 0-1 in his last three outings despite allowing a combined four runs over 19 frames.

The Kansas City Royals looked to be in trouble a week ago but have been righting the ship since. The Royals bats came to life Thursday to overcome so so pitching. Starter Jeremy Guthrie allowed four runs on eight hits and four free passes over six frames to get the win before Joe Blanton allowed three in the 9th to make things far too close. KC racked up 13 hits and walked twice with Jarrod Dyson smacking a two run bomb while Lorenzo Cain went deep with three RBI’s and two runs. Kendrys Morales drove in a pair and Alcides Escobar went 4-5 with a pair of runs. Yordano Ventura looks to get in the win column against Tampa Bay on Thursday. Ventura has struggled the past two times out with six runs given upon ten hits and a trio of BB in six innings.
The over is 8-1-1 in Tampa Bay’s last 10 overall and the Rays are 1-8 in their last 9 games as an underdog while the over is 6-1-1 in their last 8 games as an underdog. Kansas City are 13-3 in their last 16 games as a favorite and are 8-3 in their last 11 Thursday games while going 9-4 in Ventura’s last 13 home starts. Tampa Bay are 5-16 in the last 21 meetings and the over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Kansas City. Karns has been throwing well and better here if the Rays have any chance at winning. I’ll back the visitors but not confident…
