The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox square off at Fenway Park on Friday night.
The New York Yankees sit atop the American League East but every team is within striking distance so they can not afford a letdown. There was no letdown Thursday as the Yankees closed out their series with Oakland with a 6-2 victory. Starter Masahiro Tanaka was outstanding with both runs allowed on just two hits and a base on balls through 7.2 innings. The Bronx Bombers logged eight hits and walked five times with Brett Gardner going 3-5 with a solo jack while Jacoby Ellsbury driving in two and scoring followed by two runs from Cole Figueroa. The Yankees kick off the series with the Red Sox Michael Pineda on the bump. Pineda can be up and down at times and it was up in a 3-2 win versus Tampa Bay where struck out ten in seven scoreless innings.

The Boston Red Sox are last in the American League East but well within reach of first in the division. The Red Sox have won eight of ten after beating Miami 6-3 on Wednesday with Rick Porcello righting the ship for a day. Porcello gave up a pair of runs on eight hits through six frames to improve to 5-9. The bats managed five hits and walked twice with David Ortiz going 2-4 with a homer, two runs and two RBI’s while Xander Bogaerts drove in a run and scored. A red hot Clay Buchholz gets the series opening start against the visiting Yankees. Buchholz has allowed just three in his last four outings on 25 hits and 23 strikeouts over 31 frames.
The over is 8-1 in New York’s last 9 Friday games and the under is 6-2-1 in their last 9 overall while going 6-2-1 in the Yankees last 9 on grass. The over is 7-3-2 in Boston’s last 12 on grass and the Red Sox are 3-7 in their last 10 Friday games while the under is 8-1-3 in Buchholz’s last 12 starts overall. The over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings. I don’t back either guy often because they lose when I do…
